Note: NOTE: not mentioned in father's will -- was not born at time of father's death "My Geo. & Eliz. (unknown) Askin of Chas. Co. Md. George was the son of John& Rebecca Clocker Askin born in St. Mary's Co. Md about 1680 according to court record in Chas. Co. Md 1743/44 which states Geo. is 64 yrs old. Have not found Elizabeth's maiden name." (Margaret Ford, Askin Genforum database, #95, 16 Nov 2004) -- NOTE: in this same message Margaret listed several other names of possible children -- believe she was mixing the families up as the only children listed in George's will are John, Sarah, Rebecca and Elizabeth. (His wife Elizabeth also names Mary and Audry) There seems to have been more than one George in the area and believe some researchers have mixed the two families. "Askins, George, age 64, 9 Jan 1743/44: CHLR 39:700" (Maryland Genealogical Society Bulletin, Vol 33, #4, Fall 1992, Charles County Depositions, p 695, On-Line Genealogy Library database) Askins, George. Charles Co. Hundred: Port Tobacco, rent roll p. 332, sequence 218, tract name: Jordan (Charles Co. Hundred Rent Rolls Names Index, part 1, contributed to US GenWeb Archives, MD by Mike Marshall) 20 Oct 1701 "indenture from John Smith, planter to George Askin, planter, for 30 pounds; a parcel of land being part of a 1,500 acre tract called Jordans; laid out for 100 acres; /s/ John Smith, wit. . .ack. by Anne Smith, wife of John, on 14 Mar 1703." (Shoumaker-Askins-Miller Family Lines, Penny S. Starr, RootsWeb World Connect Project database) "George Askin, step son of Bryan Daily was left 'Clocker Marsh' in Bryan's will dated 1684. (Source: Excerpts from 'Marriages and Deaths in St. Mary's County, MD, 1634-1900). This land was originally inherited by George's mother, Rebecca Clocker Askin Daily, and passed along to George. George's brother, John Askins, left George his estate in St. Mary's County, Maryland upon his death in 1697." (Shoumaker-Askins-Miller Family Lines, Penny S. Starr, RootsWeb World Connect Project database) Will 30 Apr 1747 -- Probate 25 Sept 1749, Charles Co., MD -- "To wife Eliza. Askin, pt. of tractwhich I bought of John Smith of Jordon Decest [deceased?], being pt. of tract called 'Jordan,' lying on south side of my spring branch whereon my dwelling house now stands; also what manor land I have on the south side of same branch. To son John Askin land bequeathed my wife Eliza. Askin, provided my son ever returns home in person in his life. If he does not return then land is to fall to my dau. Sarah Askin. . .my dau. Eliza. Askin. . .dau. Rebeckah Askin. . .tract I bought of John Jordon Smith Decest; also 69 A. of land I bought of Jon. Mooreand Prissilah his wife, being pt of 'Jordon'; also pt. of manor called 'BeaverDam'." (Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol 10, p 54, Jane Baldwin Cotton and F. Edward Wright, On-Line Genealogy Library database) -- NOTE: will witnessed by John Moore, married to Prisilla P. Moore, formerly Smith, another reason why I believe Elizabeth was a Smith.
