(St. Mary Immigrant Profiles, submitted by Randy Dunavan, US GenWeb Archives, MD) John Askins, primary immigrant, 1658, Maryland (Immigrants to America before 1750, Frederick A. Virkus and the Early Settlers of Maryland, Gust Skordas, both cites posted on Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, Ancestry.com database "Askins, John, 14th May, 1680; 3rdJuly, 1680. To wife Rebecca. . .To son John and hrs., plantation. . .In event of death of sd. son under 21 yrs of age, plantation to be sold for benefit of Roman Catholic poor." (Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol I, pgs 82-95, US GenNet Legacy Site, Internet) -- NOTE: son George not listed as he was not born at timeof his death -- a real possibility that he did not know that his wife was expecting NOTE: Have read many references that John married a Rebecca Wright, asthe actual mother of John (Rebecca Clocker being the mother of George). I see several problems with this scenario. I believe that the Quaker and the CatholicAsken/Askins have been mixed up somewhere.
