a. Note:   Ralph Poesy, "Pops," was born in Viola, Idaho, the youngest of 13 children. He grew up in the Viola and Moscow area and from all accounts was a pretty happy kid. His father died when he was 14 years old.
  That was a markedly bad time for Roy. He also took care of his mother until her death in 1959. After Pops grew up he did a short stint in the Army and was released from service because of hearing problems.
  He also worked for the University of Idaho for over 25 years. Roy married Freda Colton (Stratton) in November 1976. They spent 31 years together and for the most part they were wonderful years. Roy and Freda moved to Spokane after their retirement, and in 1999 they moved to Yelm, Wash., to live with Freda's daughter and her husband.
  That is where they were living when Pops passed away. He was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters, and many of his nieces and nephews.
  Though Roy never had any children of his own, his stepchildren all called him Pops and loved and respected him greatly. He is survived by his wife Freda, and six stepchildren, along with countless nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
