  1840 Shelby Co. IL census (p 197) shows George Askins with 1 male 10-15, 1 male 40-50; 2 fema les under 5, 1 female 5-10, 2 females 10-15, 1 15-20, 1 20-30 and 1 40-50. Nearby by Wm. S . Barr. This census would show George with 8 daughters born before 1840, since Elizabeth wa s already married.
  Shelby Co. IL Probate Court dated Nov 11, 1843 (p 411-415 of Probate Book) -- "On this day i t was represented to the court that George Askins late of Shelby County, Illinois died intest ate on or about the 4th of November 1843. John Thompson appointed administrator and gave bon d in the penal sum of $600 with Joseph Higgins security. Appraisers: James Thompson, Josep h Yokum and James Cosart." Sale Bill dated December 19, 1843 lists the following purchasers: Reuben Askins, Thomas Will iams, John Williams, James Hooper, Elisha Corley, John Thompson, widow Askins, Jackson Moore , Stinson Barr, Abraham Askins, Samuel Askins, Elisha Bankston. Probate Court dated Jany 21st 1847 Final settlement.
