Note: Probably the son of Jonathan and Lavina Askins who is under 5 in the 1840 Shelby Co. IL censu s. 1870 Moultrie Co. IL census (p 62 house #31 in Lowe Twp, Lovington PO) shows Geo. Askins 33 O H; Almyra 32 OH; Freeman 12; Maggie F. 5; Henry W. 3; and Elmer E. 7 months b in Dec. Also i n the home was Sarah Askins 21 "domestic servant" and Thomas Askins 18 "works on farm". I th ink Sarah and Thomas are the children of George's older brother John D. and his wife Nancy St arner, who had died earlier. 1880 Chautauqua Co. KS census (ED 71 p 17 Jefferson Twp) lists George Askins 45 OH (fa b VA , mo b Mass.); Elmira 43 OH (parents' state of birth not given); Maggie F. 15 IL; Henry W. 1 3 IL; Elmer E. 11 IL; Charles 8 IL; and Minnie E. 5 Kansas. Next door was Freeman Askins 2 1 IL with wife and child. Nearby was William and Lythia J. Askins from IL. I think George wa s an uncle to William.
