a. Note:   Dorthey May Askins, 83, of Winfield, passed away Aug. 28, 2009, at her home.
  Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service.
  A memorial has been established in Dortheys name for Hospice Care Of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

  Dorthey was born May 15, 1926, in Chetopa, to Clyde Harold and Ottie Jane (Rogers) Davis. She was raised and received her education all over south eastern Kansas and north eastern Oklahoma. She attended high school in Winfield.
  She was united in marriage on Oct. 15, 1944, to Cecil Nile Askins in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Dorthey worked as a nurse aid at William Newton Memorial Hospital for over 45 years until her retirement in 1996. The family enjoyed vacationing at Buffalo River National Park in Arkansas.
  She enjoyed plants, gardening, bird watching, Blue Grass, raising dogs, horses, farming, and especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  In addition to her parents, Dorthey was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Barbara Robertson; a grandson, Timothy Ty Askins; and a great-grandson, Corbin Adair Rathbun.
  Survivors include her husband, Cecil, of the home; her sons, Micheal Askins and wife, Linda, and Timothy Askins, all of Winfield; her daughters, Diana Rathbun and husband, Doug, Leisa Potts and husband, Kevin, and Anna McClung and husband, Kevin, all of Winfield, and Cheryl Hass and husband, Glen, Nowata, Okla.; her brother, Peter Davis and wife, Maxine, Winfield; and 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
