He must have moved to Chicago in the early 1890's for we find his Cook County marriage license (#179381) between "Mr. Charley Lasser" "of the age of 24 years" and "Miss Mary Fair" "of the age of 19 years". License issued 9 February 1892 and marriage ceremony same date, by a "Minister of the Gospel" "W. F. C. Werner", who performed the ceremony in Chicago. Short form -- no other info. Daughter Mabel was born in October 1892.
In 1900, we find Charles in Chicago's Ward 33, the same ward in which we find his elder brother Alexander. This enumeration shows Charles born on exactly the date we would anticipate, but born in Michigan -- lending credence to the family statements that they came to Michigan in 1865.

  ?Where? 1910
A search of the 1917 and 1918 Muskegon city directories was negative.
Marie Crane, in her letter to me dated 2 March 1976, said: "There was an Uncle Charlie but he left his family and he died quite a few years ago." He may well have done so, or been widowed (he is enumerated as "single"), for he is alone in the 1920 census, one of eight lodgers in the household of Thomas and Lucy J. Standish.

It did show a Thomas Standish in Muskegon heights, a blacksmith, residing at 1912 Woodlawn. The 1922 and 1924 directories were likewise negative for Charles.
I was unable to find Charles in the 1930 census. However, he was mentioned in the obituary of his sister Mable (Muskegon Chronicle, 1 February 1937, page 2, col. 3):
  MRS. MABLE BASSETT.
Relatives in Muskegon have received word of the death of Mrs. Mable Bassett, 77 years old, at her home in Grand Rapids, Saturday.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth M. Mills, Grand Rapids; five brothers, Alec Lasser, Chicago, and Charles, Edward, Moses, and Delore Lasser, and a sister, Mrs. Delia Mousseau, all in Muskegon.
The body will be brought to Muskegon, Tuesday, for burial from St. Jean's church at 10 a.m.
