  Card of Thanks
  Family, friends, community of Newberry---
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for the many acts of kindness bestowed upon Cleo and her family during her illness and during our bereavement. Mother enjoyed her many visits, messages and letters of encouragement. She was grateful for delicious, hot-cooked meals and desserts for her pleasure. The outpouring of love and concern was truly appreciated and recognised by her family.
Mom loved Newberry. She had no desire to leave. She fondly recalled her move to the U.P. frontier in 1951. Questioning my father, "We are going where?" Newberry became her safe haven, her refuge. Newberry was home.
She asked that I might place this letter in the paper so that she might convey how dear and important this community was to her. She truly felt this community held her close: cradling her in tragedies and sharing in her joys. She loved living among you and was grateful to be considered a "local".
Thank you Sincerely, Amy McNamara and the family of Cleo Hicks
