Note: From a posting on Find-A-Grave: Killed By Train Benjamin Mengel of this city was struck and instantly killed by a Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul train in Chicago last Saturday morning. His friends and relatives here first learned of the fatality through a notice in the Chicago papers, and immediately went to identify the body. While crossing the tracks, Mengel was struck by a fast passenger train and his body was terribly mangled. The remains were removed to a nearby morgue where a coroners jury yesterday returned a verdict of accidental death. Deceased has brothers and sisters in the east, and was a nephew of Mrs. Martin Schuster of this city. The Naperville Clarion February 26, 1908 Benjamin F. Mengel Was born in Auburn, Pa., Dec. 21st, 1852, and came to his death by being struck by a C., M. & St. Paul train in Chicago, Saturday night, Feb. 22, 1908. Funeral services were held at Kraushar's undertaking rooms, Thursday afternoon, Rev. Divan officiating. Deceased leaves five brothers and two sisters: Joseph A. of Eastern Pa., Frank of Allentown, Pa., Lewis A. and Martin I. of Philadelphia, Jerry A. fo Lehighton, Mrs. Susan A Muench of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Kate Shappell of Pottsville, Pa.
