Note:   John attended Kutztown State Normal School and Jefferson Medical College, graduating from the latter in 1887. He opened his first medical practice in Port Clinton, PA. in the same year. In 1888 he moved to Greenbrier, PA. In July 1902 he opened a drug store in Treverton, PA. to go with his medical practice, continuing at both until his death in 1921. John was the first president of the Mengel Family Association, 1907-1910 and a vice president 1911-1913.
