Note: p. 33, in 1693 Census -- Wicaco Congregation ........ #14. Anders Bengtsson, born on Hanstrom farm in Faxarn, today Fuxerna parish, Alvsborg lan northeast of Gothenburg in 1640 arrived on the Mercurius in 1656. On 22 Nov. 1668 he married Gertrude Rambo, born 19 Oct. 1650, daughter of Peter and Brita Rambo. He wrote his name as: Andreas Bengtston; known in English records as Andrew Bankson. Descendants used Bankson or Bankston for surname. ----------------------------------------- near Gothenburg (Sweden). Came to America -- New Sweden -- at age 16 on the "Mercurius" in 1656. In 1668, he married Brita Rambo, daughter of Peter Rambo, and established residence at Moyamensing. From 1681 until 1703, he served as a justice on the Philadelphia County court. He also was elected to the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1683, 1686 and 1698, and served as lay reader and church warden for the Swedes' church at Wicaco. He suffered an accidental death, drowning in the Delaware River, and was buried 14 September 1705. He was survived by seven sons (Bengt, Anders, Peter, John, Jacob, Daniel and Joseph Bengtson) and two daughters (Catharine and Brigitta). Note: Drowned in the Delaware River at age 65. Anders Bengtsson [i.e., Anders, son of Bengt by the Swedish patronymic naming system] arrived in former New Sweden on the Mercurius in 1656 as a lad of sixteen. He came from Hanström farm in Fåxarn parish (now known as Fuxerna parish), Älfsborg län, northeast of Gothenburg, Sweden. On 22 November 1668 Anders Bengtsson married Gertrude Rambo, born in New Sweden on 19 October 1650, the daughter of Peter Gunnarsson Rambo and Brita Mattsdotter. They made their home in Moyamensing, along the Delaware River in present South Philadelphia. He served for many years as a justice on the court and as a church warden and lay reader for the Swedish church at Wicaco. He suffered an accidental death, drowning in the Delaware River, and was buried 14 September 1705. His wife survived him.*

Note: Wharton's Census Moyamensing Anders Bengtsson ... No. 6 p. 5. 14, 18 pp 14-15 Moyamensing, located south of Wicaco on the Delaware (River) in present South Philadelphia, was patented by d'Hinojossa to Olof Stille, Lars Andersson and Marten Cleinsmith, 3 June 1664. Anders Bengtsson (#6) from Alvsborg County, Sweden, arrived in New Sweden as a lad of 16 in 1656 and married Brita Rambo by 1668. In 1671 they had one child, Bengt bengtsson. Anders drowned in the Delaware River in Sept. 1704, survived by his wife, 6 sons (Bengt, Anders, Johan, Jacob, Daniel and Joseph Bankston) and two daughers (Catharina and Brigitta). o. 18 Peter Gunnarsson Rambo #18, lived just north of Robert Ashman's development. Peter, the son of Gunnar Petersson, was born in 1612 in Hisingen, now a part of Gothenburg. He was hired as a farm hand for the New Sweden colony, arriving in America in 1640. His chosen surname was derived from Ramberget [raven's mountain] a prominent hill overlooking Gothenburg harbor. After he became a freeman in 1644, he married Brita Matsdotter from Vasa, Finland and settled initially at Kingessing. About 1664 they moved to Passyunk, obtaining a confirmation patent from Gov. Lovelace for 300 acres on 1 Oct. 1669. A justice on the Upland Court, his family in 1671 included six children at home... He was buried at Gloria Dei Church in Wicaco on 12 October 1698 at the age of 85 years and almost 8 months.
