Note: Notes for Nicholas Krier: The 1880 U.S. census shows "Nicholus" Krier, 20, living in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. His occupation was working on a farm. The 1890 U.S. census records were accidentally burned or damaged by water in 1921. Most of the remaining records were destroyed about 1934. The 1900 U.S. census had an effective date of June first. The Krier home was enumerated June sixteenth. The census page shows "Nick", born July 1861, a farmer; his wife Anna, born July 1862; daughter Clara, born January 1888; five younger children, and Nick's 79 year old widowed father, John. They all lived in Belgium, Ozaukee, Wisconsin. The couple had been married for 13 years. Anna was listed as having emigrated from Germany in 1870, when she would have been 7 or 8 years old. 1870 seems to be wrong. Anna's parents were born in Germany. The 1905 Wisconsin state census, taken June first, shows "Nic", 44, a farmer who owned a farm in Belgium, although he was paying a mortgage. This is the first Wisconsin state census that showed names, ages, and places of birth for every person living in a home. Also listed was Anna, 43, and eight children, including 17 year old Clara. The 1910 U.S. census had an effective date of April fifteenth. The Krier home was enumerated April nineteenth. The census page shows "Nic", 48, a farmer; Anna, 48; and seven of their children living in Belgium. Clara had moved out and gotten married before this census. It was stated that Anna immigrated in 1883, while the 1900 census said she immigrated in 1870. The 1920 U.S. census had an effective date of January first. The Krier home was enumerated January fifth or sixth. The census page shows "Nic", 58, a farmer; Anna, 57; and two adult and two minor children living in Belgium. The space for Anna's year of immigration was not filled in. The 1930 U.S. census shows Nic, 68, and Anna, 67, still living in Belgium. The 1940 U.S. census shows Nic, 78, and Anna, 77, still living in Belgium.
