Notes
a. Note:   Notes for Katharina Roob Weiland, also known as Kate and as Catherine: The 1900 U.S. census had an effective date of June first. The Catherine Weiland home was enumerated June sixteenth. The census page shows "Kate" Weiland as being born in March of 1839, which doesn't match the April 10, 1841 date of birth found for her elsewhere, but this is definitely the correct person. Kate was listed as a widow. Her husband John had died about eight months before this census.
It was shown that Kate had given birth to 13 children, nine of whom were still living at that time. She owned a farm in Belgium, Ozaukee, Wisconsin. She could read, but she could not write, and she could not speak English, even after having lived in the United States for 53 years. It was stated that she immigrated in 1844, but the correct year was actually 1847. She and her parents were listed as having been born in the country of Luxembourg. Kate lived with two teenage children and a servant. The four are shown on the same census page, and only four households away from Kate's married daughter Mary Weiland Watry.
The 1905 Wisconsin state census, taken in June, shows "Catharine" Weiland, 64, and two adult children living on a farm in Belgium.
Catherine's FindAGrave memorial includes photos of her grave marker: <a href="https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/30953533/catharine-weiland">Memorial</a>
