  In June of 1941, Jim filled out a Social Security number application. He received the number 350-18-2063.
  Jim graduated from Morgan Park High School in Chicago on June 25, 1943. His senior class yearbook photo: <a href="https://photos.app.goo.gl/QeqQVbjXCIHvQqK03">Photo</a>
  Jim enlisted into the U.S. Army on July 29, 1943. He served in England, France, and Germany during World War 2. He was released from service on March 26, 1946.
  After returning to Chicago, Jim met his future wife Terese Louise Zeller on her 19th birthday, April 6, 1946. They married June 11, 1947, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Chicago. The couple had eight children.

  While doing some work at the Zeller Hardware store that was owned by his wife's father, George, Jim became interested in the hardware business. Jim and Terese bought Hanny's Hardware store in Genoa City, Wisconsin, after moving from Chicago to that town in the 1970s.
