Note: Notes for Ferdinando Marchese: A photo of Ferdinando's April 9, 1833, baptismal record, from the Santa Caterina Catholic Parish in Chiusa Sclafani, Palermo, Sicily, Italy: Photo At some point as a child or as a young adult, Ferdinando moved 32 miles south from his town of birth; Chuisa Sclafani, to Montallegro, where he met and later married Domenica Munisteri. Ferdinando seems to have been the biological father of Pietro Munisteri (later Pietro Marchese) born in 1861. The name "Pietro" followed etablished Italian naming practices. One was that a couple's first-born son was to be named after the father's father. In this case, Ferdidnando's father was, in fact, Pietro. Ferdinando Marchese was the boyfriend of the baby's mother Domenica Munisteri, who at that time was apparently still married to the apparently infertile Salvadore Campisi. See the "notes" for Domenica Munisteri in this chart for more information about all of that. Salvadore Campisi died on August 23, 1863. But his widow Domenica, with one young son, didn't marry her boyfriend Ferdinando Marchese until after they had their apparent second son together, which was 20 months after Salvadore Campisi's death. In Montallegro, Agrigento, Sicily, Italy, on March 24, 1864, Ferdinando Marchese's girlfriend, the widow Domenica Munisteri, with one child already (Pietro, apparently also with him), had a second son, who was named Giuseppe Marchese. For Giuseppe's birth certificate, Ferdinando stated that he was 30 years old, and Domenica was 25, but she was actually twenty two. Giuseppe later became a sulphur miner. He died September 21, 1889, in Montallegro. The next year, those two parents of two boys married. A photo of the 1865 marriage record of Ferdinando Marchese and the widow Domenica Munisteri: Photo Ferdinando's occupation at that time was a farmer. It seems certain that Ferdinando and Domenica had more children in Montallegro between those born in 1864 and 1875. But as I type this, I don't have access to those birth records on the internet. In January of 1875, in Montallegro, Ferdinando Marchese and Domenica Munisteri had a son named Luigi Marchese. He died at the age of 7 months on August 26, 1875, in Montallegro. Ferdinando's occupation was written as a sulphur miner. Domenica's occupation was written as a stapler. By November 17, 1877, at the latest, the family had moved from Montallegro 16 miles to Cianciana, where and when their son who was also named Luigi Marchese was born. He went on to marry Rosalia Marsala. More about Rosalia and Luigi is in this chart. After that, at some point during the next two years, the family moved again, this time to Comitini, where they lived when the couple's son Rosario Marchese was born on April 27, 1879. Rosario's place of birth and approximate year of birth were accurately written on the ship's manifest when he travelled to New York city in December of 1907. On Rosario's birth certificate, it was written that Ferdinando was 46 years old, and his occupation was a sulphur miner. (Rosario died February 13, 1958, in Buffalo, New York.) On January 29, 1882, in Comitini, Ferdinando and Domenica had a son named Vincenzo Marchese. On Vincenzo's birth certificate, it was written that Ferdinando was 50 years old, and his occupation was a sulphur miner. On March 8, 1886, in Comitini, Ferdinando and Domenica had a daughter named Felicia Marchese. On Felicia's birth certificate, it was written that Ferdinando was 54 years old, and his occupation was a sulphur miner. Felicia died the same day she was born. That completed a 24 and a half year period during which Domenica gave birth to between seven and eleven children. When their 25 year old son Giuseppe Marchese died on September 21, 1889, in Montallegro, Ferdinando and Domenica were living in Comitini. The January 7, 1900, marriage record for Ferdinando and Domenica's son Luigi Marchese stated that at that time Ferdinando was a resident of Comitini and Domenica was a resident of Casteltermini. Since Ferdinando and Domenica were listed as living in different towns, either that was a mistake, or maybe one was in some kind of health care facility, or maybe Ferdinando and Domenica had gotten divorced. Or maybe Ferdinando had died, and the information was just stating where he was last living. Ferdinando and Domenica's sons Pietro and Luigi married the Marsala sisters; Vincenza and Rosalia, respectively. The children of those two couples were double cousins. Two of those double cousins, Vincenzo James Marchese, and Maria "Mary Ann" Marchese, married each other about 1923.
