The top half says approximately:
ACTS OF BIRTH
The year one thousand nine hundred nine on the day twenty five of March at hour ten, in the Town Hall.
In front of me (me being a high ranking official, the person who made this birth certificate [usually the mayor]) (appeared a person named) Gioachino Mondello, Town Secretary Delegate (unknown words) and Officer of the Civil State of the town of Casteltermini, (who said that the following person had) appeared (in front of Gioachino, previously), Luigi Marchese, thirty one years, a sulphur miner, housed in Casteltermini, who declared that at the hour ten on the day twenty four of the month held (March) in the house on Jesus and Mary Street, that Rosalia Marsala, his wife, his cohabitant, gave birth to a baby of the feminine sex that he presented to me (Luigi showed the baby to Gioachino) whose name is Maria.
(The rest is just about witnesses and officials.) - Maria immigrated to the United States in February of 1910, at the age of 10 months, with her mother Rosalia, brother Ferdinando, and sister Domenica.

At some point Maria began going by the names of Mary and Mary Ann.
The March 13, 2004 <i>Orange County Register</i> printed a death notice for Mary:
Mary Marchese
Mary Marchese, 95, of Anaheim, a homemaker, died March 8, 2004, of heart disease. Visitation: 3-8 p.m. Sunday, with vigil at 7 p.m., All Souls Mortuary, Long Beach. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, at the mortuary.
Daughters, Marie Parker, Virginia and Rosealie Tannahill, Mae Raney; son, Louie; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. - Mary's SSN was 572-76-8509. The first five numbers of her SSN show that she got her number and card in California in 1965.
