The two gave their daughter the first and middle names of Margaret Florence. Margaret was the name of June's mother, and Florence was the name of Jerry's mother. Margaret's last name was either Olson or Demeny. A few days after Margaret was born in Milwaukee, June took her back to her home in Green Bay and put her in St. Mary's Home there on October 20th. In the orphanage, the infant Margaret was called "Peggy". June was trying to decide whether to keep the baby if she and Jerry decided to get married. June finally decided she could not take care of Margaret, and she put the baby up for adoption. An apparent factor in the decision-making was that June was a Catholic but Jerry was not. Margaret was placed with Raymond and Audrey Domke Jansen on March 23, 1943, while everybody waited for the final adoption to happen. The final adoption happened Nov 30, 1943 through the Milwaukee County Court. When Ray and Audrey Jansen adopted Margaret, they changed her name to Linda Rae Jansen. It isn't known where the name Linda came from. Her middle name Rae was the feminine version of her father's nickname, Ray. This genealogical chart lists Margaret/Linda's biological ancestors. Linda's chart containing her adoptive parents and those parents' biological ancestors is also online here on rootsweb.ancestry.com: Linda Rae Jansen's adoptive parents and their ancestors That chart is part of a combined chart with Linda's husband Robert Kris "Bob" Eckl, Sr. and his ancestors. With the help of at least one sympathetic person, Linda succeeded in learning of, and locating, Gerald "Jerry" Olsen and "June" Paulson. Linda contacted them separately, then met them separately. Jerry Olson was very receptive. He met both Linda and her husband Bob Eckl. Jerry sent Linda and Bob a few notes over the years. Jerry visited Bob and Linda several years as he traveled east to see his family. But June Paulson was nervous and very cautious about meeting Linda. Linda only saw her once; the day she met her in Green Bay. Bob Eckl did not accompany Linda on the trip from Illinois. Linda and Bob got a couple of notes or Christmas cards from June, but that was it. One contained a picture of June and her husband, James Paulson. Neither Jerry Olson nor June Paulson told their children that they had given up a baby for adoption in 1942/1943. June did not even tell her husband James about it. The Northwest Herald (Crystal Lake, Illinois) printed an obituary for Linda: LAKEMOOR - Linda R. Eckl, 68, of Lakemoor, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, in Arlington Heights.
