Notes
a. Note: Notes for Emile Joseph Demeny: He immigrated from Belgium in 1880, according to information on the 1900 U.S. census.
In the U.S. he was known as Emil.
The 1890 U.S. census records were accidentally burned or damaged by water in 1921. Most of the remaining records were destroyed about 1934. So it isn't known where Emil was at that time.
Emil had a first marriage to Mary Rice. That happened September 30, 1893, in Stiles, Oconto, Wisconsin. That marriage ended in divorce on April 16, 1895, in Oconto. Only two days later, Emil married the divorcee Emma Josephine Adele Lardinois Maes.
The 1900 U.S. census had an effective date of June first. The Demeny home was enumerated June nineteenth. The census page shows Emil, 28; his wife Emma, 25 (actually 26 or 27); three children, including 2 year old "Jule"; plus Emil's 24 year old unmarried brother Eugene. Emil was a farmer. They lived in Chase, Oconto, Wisconsin.

The 1905 Wisconsin state census, taken in June, lists Emil, 33; Emma, 31; and six children, including seven year old "Jule". They lived in the town of Morgan, in Oconto County. Emil was still a farmer. Emil was listed as having been born in Belgium, along with his parents and Emma's parents. Emil's brother Eugene and his family lived very close by, and were listed just before Emil's family on that census page.

On November 17, 1917, Emil became a naturalized U.S. citizen. At that time Emil lived in Sobieski, Wisconsin, which is an unincorporated area in the town of Little Suamico, in Oconto County. The area is about 12 miles north of Green Bay. A photo of an index card containing some information from that naturalization: Photo
