Note: Notes for Patrick Terry: The family so far hasn't been found in the 1850 U.S. census, even though the 1860 census states that the couple were in New York during that time, based on the birthplaces of their children. The 1860 U.S. census had an effective date of June first. The Terry home was enumerated June twenty first. The census page shows Patrick "Tremary", 40; his wife Mary Jane, 39; and six children, including two-month-old Nicholas. The family lived in Watertown, Jefferson, New York. Patrick was a paper maker. He and Mary Jane were born in Ireland. The couple's oldest child, 12 year old Margaret, had been born in Canada. The other children had been born in New York. Patrick was a soldier in the Civil War. He was a private in Company G of the 14th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He was living in Humboldt, Brown, Wisconsin just before he began service for the Union Army on January 2, 1865. His unit was involved in battles and occupations in Eastport, Mississippi, then New Orleans, Louisiana, then Mobile, Alabama, then Montgomery, Mississippi, then back again to Mobile. He "mustered out" (was released from military service) on October 9, 1865, at Mobile. The 1870 U.S. census had an effective date of June first. The Terry home wasn't enumerated until August twenty ninth. The census page shows Patrick, 45; Mary, 40; and five children, including 10 year old Nicholas. Patrick was a farmer. The family lived in Montpelier, Kewaunee, Wisconsin. Patrick and Mary were born in Ireland. All the children were born in New York state. The family home and farm were worth $500. The Terry home was enumerated June eighteenth. The census page shows Patrick "Terrey", 50; Mary, 52; and three sons, including 19 year old "Nicklaus". Patrick was still a farmer and the family still lived in Montpelier. Patrick and Mary were born in "irland". All the children were born in "Newyork".
