Note: Notes for Maren Kirstine Larsen Olsen/Olson: The Danish State Archives Filming Centre has photographed old church parish registers, and posted them online. The November 3, 1860 birth record for Maren Kirstine Larsen has been posted online and is linked to below. The photograph was taken in pure black or white, without any greyscale, so the result is a poor quality image: Photo At the age of nine in April of 1870, Maren, her sister, brother, and parents left their home in Denmark for the last time. They immigrated to Saxeville, Waushara, Wisconsin. They arrived in time to be included in the 1870 U. S. census, which had an effective date of June first. See the "notes" for her father Daniel Larsen, for more about that. The 1880 U.S. census had an effective date of June first. At that time 19 year old Maren Kirstine Larsen was going by the name Christine; the English version of her middle name. She was no longer living with her parents and siblings in Belmont, Portage, Wisconsin. The 1880 census shows that she was unmarried. She was working as a servant for another family in the larger town of Plover, in Portage County, Wisconsin. Maren Kirstine "Christine"s husband Hans Olson had died in 1902, so when her family was included in the 1905 Wisconsin state census in June, she was listed as a widow. In the 1900 U.S. census she had been listed as Maren K. Olson. But after that she apparently decided to go back to being known as Christine. Or else she had just stated her legal name to the 1900 census taker. In that 1905 Wisconsin census, she was listed as "Christina M" Olson, age 45. Her seven children were living with her, including the misspelled name of her 17 year ond son, "Lewis O." "Christina" was a farmer. They lived in Belmont, Portage, Wisconsin. "Christina" and her parents were listed as being born in Denmark. All the children were born in Wisconsin. A photo of part of that 1905 census page: Photo The 1910 U.S. census had an effective date of April fifteenth. Maren Kirstine, a.k.a. Christine, was listed as "Mrs. Hans Olson", age 48. She still lived in Belmont. The 1940 U.S. census had an effective date of April first. "Christena" Olson was enumerated May 22. She was a 79-year-old widow living in the Belmont home of her daughter "Carry" (Carrie) and her husband and children.
