a. Note:   Notes for Nicholas Joseph Terry: The 1890 U.S. census records were accidentally burned or damaged by water in 1921. Most of the remaining records were destroyed about 1934. So it isn't known where Nicholas was at that time.
  The 1900 U.S. census had an effective date of June first. The Terry family was enumerated June twenty second. This was the only census ever that asked for the month a person was born. The census page shows "Nicolas", born in April of 1861, (actually 1860); his wife "Agnes M", born in March of 1868; an adopted son; and three younger children. The family lived in Pittsfield, Brown, Wisconsin. The couple had been married for nine years. Agnes had given birth to five children, but only three of them were still living. Nicholas was a farmer. He had been born in New York, and his parents were born in Ireland. Mary was born in Wisconsin, and her parents were born in Ireland.

  The 1910 U.S. census had an effective date of April fifteenth. The Terry family was enumerated May fourth. The census page shows Nicholas J., 49 (actually 50); "Agnes", 49 (actually 42); and six children including six year old Margaret M. The family still lived in Pittsfield. The couple had been married for 19 years. Agnes had given birth to ten children, but only six of them were still living. Nicholas was still a farmer. He had been born in New York, and his parents were born in Ireland. Mary was born in Wisconsin, and her parents were born in Ireland.

  The 1920 U.S. census had an effective date of January first. The Terry family was enumerated January thirteenth. The census page shows Nicholas, 58 (actually 59); his wife Mary A., 52; and seven children, including 16 year old Margaret. The family still lived in Pittsfield. Nicholas was still a farmer. He had been born in New York, and his parents were born in Ireland. Mary was born in Wisconsin, and her parents were born in Ireland.

  The 1930 U.S. census had an effective date of April first. The Terry family was enumerated April fifth. The census page shows the misspelled nickname "Nek", 69; Mary Agnes, 62; and three sons. They still lived in Pittsfield.
