Notes
a. Note: Notes for Christian Anderson: He called himself Chris.
He had 10 brothers and sisters.
The 1910 U.S. census had an effective date of April fifteenth. Christian's residence was enumerated April twenty sixth. The census page, as was normal, showed all family members listed on their own line, but their last name was only written once, for the head of the household. The page shows Christian's mother Bertha "Arneson" listed as the head of the household. Below her name were the names of Christian, age 22, and his four youngest brothers. They lived in Lodi, Columbia, Wisconsin. Christian's occupation was listed as a house painter. It seems likely that Christian's parents surname change had never applied to him, since he was an adult, despite what was written on that census page. Christian's 1913 marriage license shows his last name as Anderson.

On June 5, 1917, Chris had to fill out and sign a World War draft registration card. At that time he was living in Shawmut, Montana. He was a farmer. His physical description was written as tall with a medium build, blue eyes and light brown hair. He signed the card: Chris Anderson. Photo
The 1920 U.S. census had an effective date of January first. The Anderson family was enumerated January twenty seventh. The census page shows that Christian, 31; his wife Marie, 24; their 4 year old daughter Ernestine; and their one and a half year old daughter Evelyn were still living in Shawmut, Wheatland, Montana. Christian was a farmer. The family lived so close to the residence of Marie's parents and two sisters, that both households were listed on the same census page.
The 1930 U.S. census had an effective date of April first. The Anderson family was enumerated April third. By that time Christian, 42; Marie, 34; and their daughters Ernestine, 14; Evelyn, 11; Vivian, 9; and Florence, 7, had moved back to Madison, Wisconsin. They lived at 6 Randall Avenue. Christian's occupation was listed as a painter at a university (the University of Wisconsin). They rented a residence for $50 per month. The family did not own a radio. It was written that Christian's parents were born in Norway.

The 1940 U.S. census had an effective date of April first. The Anderson family was enumerated April twenty seventh. The census page shows Chris, 52; Marie, 43; and daughters Evelyn, 21; Vivian, 19; and Florence, 17. They still lived in Madison. Chris' occupation was listed as an interior decorator for a University.
The x after Marie's name on the census page indicates that she was the person who stated the family's information to the census taker. She stated that she had completed four years of high school, and Chris had only completed 8th grade.

On April 7, 1942, Christian Anderson, at the age of 54, had to sign a World War 2 draft registration card. Christian and these other 45 to 64 year old men were not going to get called for military service. The purpose of the registration was to document the mens' skills for possible use later in the war. Christian and Marie were still living in Madison. His employer was the State of Wisconsin. His physical description was 5' 10", 205 pounds with blue eyes. Photo
