Notes
a. Note: Notes for Karolina Wilhelmine Albertine Kanitz Mundstock: In Prussia, her first name was pronounced kah-ro-LEE-nuh.
  She had 10 siblings.
Karolina Kanitz left her home in Prussia at the age of 22 in 1885 and boarded the ship Hohenstaufen in Bremen. She arrived in New York city on May 13, 1885. The ship's manifest shows her first name written as Caroline. It was written that Caroline's last residence was in "Kilden", although it is unknown where that was, or if Kilden was the correct spelling in English or German. The manifest also shows that Caroline's stated destination was Wisconsin.
In the United States, other people usually spelled her name beginning with a C; Carolina or Caroline.
The 1900 U.S. census notes that 14 years after immigrating, Caroline could not speak English.
The 1910 U.S. census shows that Caroline had given birth to nine children, seven of whom were still living. Also shown was that 25 years after immigrating from Germany, Caroline still could not speak English.
The May 11, 1939 Milwaukee Journal included a death notice that spelled her first name as Carolina: Photo
