Notes
a. Note: Notes for William H. Ahern: The 1870 U.S. census had an effective date of June first. The Ahern household was enumerated on June sixteenth. The census page lists William, 35, a farmer; his wife Mary, 33; children Ella, 9; Mary, 7; William, Jr., 5; Daniel, 4; and Josephine, one year of age, plus William's 54 year old mother, Mary. Also listed was a farm laborer who lived with the family. They lived in Chatham, Columbia, New York. The adults were born in Ireland; the children in New York state.

Since the oldest child Ella was 9 years old in June of 1870, her year of birth should be either 1860 or 1861. She was listed as having been born in New York state. This means that William and Mary could have been married and living in New York state, if not in Chatham, when the 1860 census was recorded. So far, no listing for William or Mary has been found in the 1860 U.S. census, in New York or anywhere else.
William's death notice in the July 17, 1909 Chicago Tribune, photo, shows that his daughter Mary had married a man with the last name of Koonan, and Ella had married a man with the last name of Kelly. Apparently William's children William and Josephine, who were listed in the 1870 census, had died before William the father died July 15, 1909.
There was an identical death notice on the same date in the Chicago Examiner newspaper, but it additionally stated that the location of the funeral was the residence of William's son. That address was where William was living when he died.
A separate listing of burial permits in the Tribune shows that William's address was 125 59th Street. (East or west on 59th was not stated, but it was west.)
