Note: Notes for John Synan: Synan is much more common spelling than any variant spelling such as Sinan. John "Sinan" was listed on one page of a ship's passenger manifest, with his two oldest children Margaret and William. They arrived in New York City on December 8, 1851. Photo: Immigration ship's passenger manifest page You would need to create a free account at FamilySearch.org to see the image. John's wife Johanna and the couple's six youngest children immigrated and reunited about two years later. The John "Synan" family was listed in the 1855 New York State census in Troy, Rensselaer, New York. The family continues onto the next image, which can be seen by clicking on the arow to the right of "Image 340 of 447". There, a 32 year old Margaret Ryan was listed as a sister-in-law (of the head of the household, John). That Margaret may have been Johannah's sister, possibly never married. If correct, that could mean that Johannah's maiden name was Ryan. The John "Siner" family was also listed in the 1860 U.S. census, still in Troy.
