Even though George Crowley and Ellen "Ella" Ahern were written as the names of the parents on the birth certificate of their daughter Mary Elaine Crowley, born December 29, 1922, and even though there was a box on that birth certificate containing the pre printed "Legitimate ?" in which "Yes" was written, and even though the same was on Robert Daniel Crowley's birth certificate, who was born June 28, 1927, George and Ella did not marry until August 2, 1927, in Cook County, Illinois.
The 1930 U.S. census had an effective date of April first. The Crowley household was enumerated April fourteenth. The census page shows George, 40; his wife Ella, 35; and children Mary, 7; Robert, 2; and Joan, one year of age, living in the home of Ella's parents, Daniel and Johanna Ahern, at 1755 W. 100th St., Chicago. George was a truck driver. He and Ella had been married for eight years.

Mary/Shirley Crowley married a man with the last name of Murphy. Shirley later married Richard H. Knoll. Mary E. Knoll died June 6, 1989, in Orland Park, Illinois.
