Notes
a. Note:   Friedrich Wilhelm Bilke was born in Rothenberga, Saxony, Kingdom of Prussia (Germany). At the age of 12, on April 29, 1851, he arrived in America. He settled with his parents near Sauk City, Sauk County, Wisconsin. At the time of the 1860 Federal census he is 21 years old, a farm labor and goes by the name William. Two years later he married Anna Laura Kunz. At the age of 24 William enlisted in the Union Army and fought in the Civil War from February 13, 1864 until the war ended. He was honorably discharged and returned home to Sauk County, Wisconsin on September 19, 1865. William and his wife, Laura, moved to Newton County, Missouri about 1869 where they lived the rest of their lives. The Historical Atlas of Newton County, Missouri (1882) lists William as a farmer and stock raiser. William and Laura are buried in Hornet Cemetery in Newton County, Missouri.
