Note: N360308 William moved to the Freeport, Illinois area in the 1840s and was living in Lancaster, Illinois in 1850 with his wife Elizabeth (Otto) who he had married in 1849. They had eight (known) children: Mary, Minerva, Robert, John, Anna, Daniel, Harry and Harvey. William served in Company K, 46th Illinois Infantry as a Private during the Civil War. He enlisted on 30 Dec 1861 and mustered out on 20 Jan 1866 at Baton Rouge, LA. His wife Elizabeth died July 13, 1863. He married Martha Atkins in 1865 and following the war returned to Illinois. They were living in Albion, Iowa in 1870 and Vernon Springs, Iowa in 1880. Martha was a Southern bride and his immediate family was not receptive to her which led to their relocation to Iowa and later to Calcasieu, Louisiana before 1890. He joined his sister Rebecca Diemer who lived in Jennings. Brother Samuel also joined them afterwards. William and Martha had seven (known) children: Henry, Carrie, Sarah, James, Charles, Olive and Earl. William died November 19, 1909 and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings, Louisiana. His plot is marked with a Civil War marker.
