  Immigrated to the United States in 1890 at the age of 16. He came alone on the ship Itilia via New York on March 25, 1890. There are no other Henningsen's on the passenger list. He arrived in New York before Ellis Island was established. Johannes is listed as being from Esprehm, Schleswig-Holstein Germany. Johannes Peter Henningsen became a US Citizen in 1896.
  Johannes Peter Henningsen was known as Hans Henningsen. He signed his name in the census as Hans Henningsen.
  In 1905, Johannes Peter Henningsen was renting a farm from Henry Keiser, Delaware County, Prairie Township, near Ryan Iowa. This is where he died. Johannes Peter Henningsen was to have fallen from a windmill onto a water tank. A doctor was called and cared for him on the kitchen table. This account has been passed down through the years but is not officially recorded anywhere. Johannes Peter's death certificate states the cause death as follows: cerebral tumor contributory emphysema following pneumonia and epilepsy. Johannes died June 28, 1905 near Ryan, Delaware County Iowa, USA. His death certificate lists him as 31 years, 4 months, 18 days old.
