  Served in the US Navy in the Construction Battalion "Sea Bees" at the later years of World War II.
  In the fall of 1944, Ray received his induction notice for the Army. He chose to be inducted into the Navy instead and entered active duty on November 3, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri. His Basic Training was at Farragut, Idaho followed by additional training at Davisville, Rhode Island. Ray's first assignment was the 37th Naval Construction Battalion (Special) and then later, the 20th Naval Construction Battalion. He served in the American Area and the Asiatic Pacific and was given the Victory Medal.
  After World War II ended, the armed forces began to reduce in size. A point system discharge was applied and Ray received his Honorable Discharge on February 16, 1946 after one year, three months and fourteen days active service. His specific rank at discharge was WT2c (Water Tender Second Class) although his Discharge Certificate says WT3c.
  Burial place is Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. Sparks, Raymond Earl, b. 02/26/1924, d. 03/12/1983 US Navy, WT2, Plot: M 0 172, bur. 03/17/1983
  Ray was a member of the Ancient, Free & Accepted Masons and the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.
