Note: Intured at St Kilda Cemetery, Jewish section, Monumental Grave, Compt B, Grave 195 Inscription reads: Cherished Memory of HYMAN LEVINSON who died on th 21st April 1905 Aged 71 years And his Beloved wife AUGUSTA who died on the 13th April 1923 Aged 81 years
Records show Hyman was a Jeweller and watchmaker in Sturt Street, Ballarat. A trowel was crafted for Sir Redmond Barry commerorating the laying of the foundation stone at Ballarat East Public Library, presented on 21 Jan 1867. Sir Redmond was a good friend to Emanuel Steinfeld, Hyman's brother in law. In 1875, Emanuel had established a furniture warehouse and in 1876, took Hyman into partnership, in premises occupying Elizabeth and Lonsdale Streets. Hyman arrived in Victoria by the ship "Marco Polo" in 1854. After a visit to his parents in England he returned on the steam ship "Great Britain" in 1860 in company with his sister and Miss Augusta Jacobs, whom he married the following year at St Kilda.
