  He was a well connected military officer who came to the colony of Virginia to quell Indian uprisings and chose to stay.
  He received a 10,000 acre land grant that icludes the present day H. L. Hudgins plantation and the Crewe golf course. The home site was known as "Sunnyside" and is presently is deep in impenetrable woods. The headstone of William Jennings and his wife is all that remains.
  Tradition has it that a nephew of William Jennings (William Jennings of Acton) died as a bachelor at age 97 and left his two million pounds sterling to the descendants of our William Jennings. No one came to England to claim the estate and it was settled by relatives their. Over the years it has been the subject of litigation here in America.
