a. Note:   ed to Wilkes County, Georgia. In 1804, William moved to Kentucky to become a Methodist minister and was ordained on September 16, 1805 by Bishop Francis Asbury. He was then appointed to the Licking County, Ohio District in the Western Conference of the Methodist Church.
  At the age of 25, he married Priscilla Duvall on Aug 28, 1807 in Rushville, Fairfield County, Ohio. They returned to Georgia in 1809, settling in Jackson County where they remained until moving to Gilmer County in early 1834. William Ellington appears on the special June 1834 census of Gilmer County, at which time the total white population of Gilmer County was 369. William is credited with preaching the first sermon in Ellijay during the summer of 1833.
