Note:   (from the Belfast Telegraph,Tuesday, January 3, 1956) --- Service in Levant _______________ Mr. William Lowry Craig Knight who died at Rye at the week-end was an Ulsterman with a lifetime of knowledge of the Mediteranean Countries. Born at Cookstown, where his father was a doctor, and educated at Dungannon Royal School and Cambridge, he joined the consular service in 1909. All his service was in the countries of the Levant. He was at Salonika, Corfu, and Trebizond and in 1930 became First Secretary in the Embassy in Turkey. Later he was in turn Consul-General at Alexandria, Tunis, Athens and Salonika, mostly in stormy times. After his retirement Mr. Knight was on a United Nations Special Committee on the Balkans. ________________
