Date: 1/22/02 2:43:11 PM Eastern Standard Time From: [email protected] To: [email protected] ------------------- Hello Warren; A quick note to tell you that I have been monitoring a site in Nova Scotia, Canada that copies articles from the old Berwick Register, the paper in which I found the "Strange Bit of Family History" that was so valuable to our own history. The following is an obituary printed January 27, 1897 in the "Cambridge" community section: "This whole community is saddened by the death of Mr. Ernest A. Craig, son of Deacon James Craig (my brackets - oldest son of William and Mary Craig and wife of Susan Neily) who died at Quincy, Mass. of pneumonia on Thursday the 21st inst. The funeral took place on Saturday immediately after the arrival of the afternoon express. The internment was at the Cambridge burying ground where a baby brother, grandfather (William) and other relatives lie. An impressive and appropriate service was preached by Rev. Read, Rev. Allen of Waterville and Mr George also took place in the ceremony. The bereaved family, who have the sympathy of the entire community, have the satisfaction of knowing that though far from home the deceased had good care and was visited by kind relatives during his last illness. The remains were accompanied home by the young wife of Mr. Bruce McConnell of Boston (my brackets - must be son of Susannah Jane Craig and William McConnell) cousin of Mr. Craig. Mrs. McConnell, who is an American lady, will long be remembered for the loving kindness which prompted her to take this sad journey at this inclement season. At the station she placed two beautiful bouquets of chrysanthemums and calla lillies on the casket, sent by Mrs. Arthur W. Bishop, nee Miss Nellie ?, and MRS. NORMAN MARCHANT, formerly MISS ANNIE CRAIG. We, with others, pray that these kind friends may be blessed with the Blessing of God which maketh rich and addeth no sorrow. Mr. W.A. Craig and Mr. Edward Craig of Bridgetown attended the funeral of their nephew on Saturday, returning to their homes on Monday. --- Warren, I guess we have a new link to follow!!! Annie Craig obviously became Mrs. Norman Marchant. I didn't have any evidence that she had ever married. Thought this might surprise you too. |
