Note: Some records indicate that the Koch Family had originated in Bosingen, Freudenstadt, Wurttemburg and moved to Prussia. He is listed as being one of the original settlers of Friedenstal, Bessarabia, a mother colony, was founded in 1834 so he would have been in his early 20's when he arrived in Friedenstal. It is possible that he spent time in another colony or colonies before settling in Friedenstal. He married Maria (Marianna) Bieman. She was born c1808 in Prussia and she died 12 Mar 1838. Records indicate two children that were born to this marriage: (1) Maria Dorothea Koch was born 30 Sep 1834 and (2) Caroline Koch was born 14 May 1836. The 1847 Friedensthal Personnel Book only lists Maria Koch as the daughter of Friedrich Koch from his first marriage, so evidently Caroline Koch had died prior to that time. Also listed in the 1847 Personnel Book was Friedrich's "Pflegesohn" (foster son or some times used for step-son) Ludwig Bar. He was born 5 May 1830 and died 29 Oct 1863. This could also indicate that Maria Bieman was a widow when she married Friedrich Koch.
