ROSS OBITUARY: To the worshipful Master, Wardens and brothers of the National Lodge No. 411 F. & A.M. We, the Committee, appointed to draft resolutions on the death of Brother J.W. ROSS who departed this life March 30th, 1920, at his home Branch, Arkansas, R.F.D. #1, submit the following report: Our desceased brother was born at Waynesborough, Wayne Co., TN on January 13th, 1845. He served as a Confederate veteran a member of Co. A of the 9th TN Calvary under Capt. J.B. Biffle from Aug. 10th, 1862 till paroled May 10, 1865. In the summer of 1868 he took all the degrees of the Blue Lodge at Clifton, TN; was admitted and moved to AR in the year 1870. Was made a Royal Arch mason at Duvall Chapter, Charleston, AR., Jan. 1st 1876, taking all the degrees; was charter member in three different lodges in AR as follows: Gainsborough Lodge near Batesville, AR; Lows Creek Lodge in South Franklin Co.; and National Lodge No. 411 at Caulksville, Logan Co., AR.; he being last affiliated with the latter lodge, which laid him to rest on March 31st, the day following his death. Interment being at Southard's Chapel of Hickory Ridge Cemetery, North-west of Charleston, AR. Brother ROSS professed religion in 1866; joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Mt. Hope, Wayne Co., TN in 1867; was elected and ordained a ruling elder in his church in 1875, in which capacity he served till his death. And whereas if has pleased the Great Creator in his infinite wisdom to call from our midst our cherished and beloved brother, thus serving another link in the fraternal chain which binds us closely together in Charity and brotherly love: OBITUARY: Be it resolved that we extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved one who survive our Brother,and point their weeping eyes and aching hearts to Him who "tempers the wind to the shorn lamb" as their only source of real and divine comfort and consolation. Resolved further and lastly, that a copy of these resolutions be made a part of our Lodge minutes, that a copy be presented to the family, and a copy be mailed to our county newspaper for publication.
