Note: Spartanburg Herald, Friday, April 10, 1959, page 15 SPARTAN'S KIN FOUND DEAD AT LAURENS Ray Lee, 49, of Laurens Route 2 was found dead of a gunshot wound at his home Wednesday at 10:45 p.m. Laurens County police reported Thursday. The man's body was found by his wife, Mrs. Pauline Lee, when she returned home from work. sheriff C.W. Wier said the death apparently was suicide. Mr. Lee's body was found lying in a pool of blood with a .12 gauge single barrel shotgun nearby. A load of shot had entered his head, police said. Sheriff Wier said a note was also found. The note did not directly state a suicide intent, but it was despondent in tone, he added. Mr. Lee had been out of work for about a year, the sheriff said. Deputy W.D. Burns investigated the shooting. No inquest is planned, the sheriff said. Mr. Lee was a member of White Plains Baptist Church and a Woodman of the World. He was a former employee of Oakland Mills, Newberry. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pauline Willis Lee; one daughter, Mrs. Winfred Chastain of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one son, Calvin M. Lee of the Air Force in Fairbanks, Alaska; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lee of Cowpens Route 1; two brothers, James Lee of the Air Force in Texas and Troy Lee of Converse; seven sisters, Mrs. Fate Goode of Cowpens, Mrs. Albert McKinney of Spartanburg Route 2, Mrs. Eunice Cash of Converse, Mrs. R.G. Evans of Gaffney, Mrs. R.L. McBee of Spartanburg Route 2, Mrs. Claude Tisdale of Oklahoma and Mrs. Richard Thomas of Cowpens Route 1, and six grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the M.W. Bobo Funeral Chapel. Boggs, William Joy and Ken Riding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Lee was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted shotgun wound Wednesday at his home. Nephews will be pallbearers. The body is at the M.W. Bobo Funeral Chapel and will be taken to the church Sunday at 1 p.m. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Annie Willis near Clifton.
