He was one of the first settlers of La Porte County. Deceased died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. Koontz, near Bigelow's Mills, at the age of 77 years. He had been afflicted with paralysis for two years, but a few weeks before his death was taken with congestion of the lungs, which hastened his death. Mr. Campbell was born in Ohio, Aug. 3, 1822. When he was 6 years old his parents moved to Indiana, living at Wabash for a while, then in 1832 they moved to La Porte County where Mr. Campbell spent most of his life. He followed farming as an occupation. He was married to Miss Maria Shaw, Sept. 20, 1841, both being members of the Methodist Episcopal church. To this union were born four children, three of whom, with deceased's wife, who has been a true and faithful companion, survive him.
