a. Note:   Richard Edward Campbell died at his Dundee home on Sept. 27, 1997. He was 77. He was born Jan. 4, 1920, to William and Susan (Baum) Campbell in Lisco, Neb. He moved with his family to Oregon at age 13, settling in La Grande where he attended high school. He worked for three years for the General Land Office (now the Bureau of Land Management -- BLM) on survey crews. In October of 1942 he volunteered for the Army Air Corps, serving three years in North Africa and Italy.
  He married Marjorie Rundall in Cove on April 24, 1944. After his honorable discharge he farmed in Cove, Hillsboro, and later in Rupert, Idaho where he had a GI Homestead. In 1960 the family returned to Oregon where he worked in Tillamook as a technician for the Oregon Breeders Association. In 1965 they moved to Dundee and he worked as a ranger at Champoeg State Park for 12 years, retiring when health began to fail.
  He enjoyed camping, spending time with his family and he loved the children in the neighborhood. He also raised regististered Guernsey cattle under the name of 'Scotch Hollow Guernseys'.
  Survivors include wife Marjorie of Dundee; sons, Bruce of Springfield and Stephen of Aloha; granddaughter Jodi Campbell of Aloha; grandsons, Scott of Aloha and Brian of Norman, Okla; brothers Leonard of Summerville and Herbert of La Grande; and numerous nieces and nephews.
  At his request, no service will be held. Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements for disposition by cremation.
