a. Note:   located at the southwest corner of Griswald Road in Elyria Twp.This is where they raised their children to adulthood. Their children attended the school house that was located on their own property. It is found in the records of Lorain County that Clarence owned quite a bit of property on the west side of the Black River at one time or another. Besides farming and tending to his land he was a Superintendant at Western Automatic Co. in Elyria Ohio, retiring in 1919. It is said that they were one of the first families to own an automobile in the area. What a luxury that must have been in the times when most people were still hitching up their wagons or buggies to go to town. Clarence invested in the stock market and real estate. He owned property in Miami Florida at one time. Marion Curtis relates that he owned stock in wheat. Did the great depression take its toll on this family?
