Note: hio, Ida 13 yrs old, born Ohio, Caroline 8 yrs. old, born Ohio, and Clarence 4 yrs. old, born Ohio. The 1874 township map of Henrietta Twp. shows Lewis Higgins owning property south of Rt. 113 on what must now be Garfield Rd. just west of Vermilion Road in Henrietta township, Lorain County, Ohio. Lewis half brother, Eber Newton jr., owned property a little east of this area. Peter Reighley bought property north of this on Vermilion Road a little later on. Clarence Higgins and Jennie Reighley must have been neighbors when they were growing up. Lewis death record was found in Hillsdale Co. MI. It is in Death Records, Book "C" pg 88 record # 9755. Lewis' sister Wealthy married Merari Durand. When Lewis first wife, Nancy Davis Higgins, died perhaps he went to live with his sister and her family so his sister could care for his two young daughters. This may be how he and Dorleski fell in love. She was still living at home with her father Merari and may have helped care for Lewis' girls. One year and two weeks after Nancy's death he and Dorleski were married. They had four children of their own. One son died in infancy. Lewis and Dorleski moved to Waldron, Michigan about 1887 and that is where they spent the remainder of their lives together. Lewis and Dorleski's marriage certificate is in the 1860-1872 marriage records for Lorain Co. Volume #3 pg. 224. Lewis was adopted by Eber Newton when his mother remarried, tho he did not change his last name, he kept the name of his birth father .
Note: The 1870 census of Lorain County shows Lewis 40, born Ohio, Dorleski 34, born O
