Note: Mate, 1st class. During the war he was on a fleet in the Pacific Ocean. When Maynard was discharged at the close of the war he became a Fireman for the city of Elyria. Maynard was a very devoted man and was dearly loved by all who met him. He was a kind and loving husband and father and left many good memories with all his family. He was a community minded person and showed it every day. In April of 1963 he was called out on an emergency for the local ambulance service (besides being on the fire department he worked part time for the ambulance service)there had been an accident and some people were injured. Maynard was killed while on that call that day, as there had been some downed electrical wires near the rear of the ambulance. Maynard was a very cautious man and had to recheck the back door to make sure it was closed tightly, while doing so, he came in contact with the wires and Maynard died of electrocution. He gave his own life to make sure someone else was safe. He was mourned deeply by most of the city of Elyria, as he had touched so many lives of the community. It is said that his funeral was one of the largest that Elyria has ever seen. As a young child Eleanor suffered from chronic ear infections, with the lack of antibiotics the doctors did what they thought was right and punctured her eardrums to release the infection. By doing this they caused considerable hearing loss which resulted in permanent deafness as she got older. Eleanor learned to read lips and her deafness didn't hinder her life at all. She was a robust fun loving person who all admired. After the death of Maynard she successfully continued to raise their three boys to be very good men. In her later years she developed MS. Being the type of person she was, she continued to live her life to the fullest, never letting her disease get in the way, she remained cheerful, loving and strong willed til the end. What a remarkable person she was. In the 1910 Lorain County Census I found the following: Arthur Hintz 34 OH wife: Marie 32 OH son: Wm John 7 OH son: Arthur Jr. 6 OH son: John 4 OH dau: Savilla 3 OH brother: William Hintz 38 OH There were also three other children born to Arthur and Marie, Lil; Pat; and Maynard. They were all born after 1910.
Note: Maynard Hintz joined the Navy and served in World War II. He was a Pharmacist's
