New York Passenger list names her brother Rev. Theo Schurdel of Indiana. Emma Schurdel, on passenger list, says she's going to sister Helen Schurdel - at 1154 Laurel,Minneapolis (sic) -should be Indianapolis 1915 Iowa State census: at 515 5th St., Fort Madison. Resided in Iowa for 6 years. b Germany. Lutheran. Reads and writes 1930 census - Widowed. Esther Schurdel Houser received a note of congratulations from Helene at the time of her marriage to Denver Houser in 1931.

  MRS. J. THOMAS DIES TODAY Mrs. Helena Schurdell Thomas, 54, 420 Ave. C, died in Sacred Heart Hospital at 10:20 o'clock Tuesday night after an illness of more than two years. Mrs. Thomas was born in Friedheim, Germany, Dec. 17, 1872. She was married to Joseph C. Thomas in Ft. Madison Dec. 8,1931 and was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church here. Surviving are her husband; one brother, Rev. Theo. Schurdell, Cleveland, OH and several brothers and sisters now residing in Germany. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock from Clements Chapel and interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
