  Mrs. Charles L. USHER (Marvin PALMER) born in Connecticut and married in New York. In the winter of 1818 she, with her husband and family, drove through from New York in a sleigh, a portion of the way from Buffalo on the frozen lake. She was the mother of three sons and four daughters. "Memorial To The Pioneer Women Of The Western Reserve" Had 2 more sons, names not known, who died about the same year as Charles, Sr.

Mrs. JORDAN lost her father and two brothers the winter following. The woods were very thick and little or no sunlight could penetrate them to dissipate the dampness which caused the malaria that was prevalent at the time.
