Reaman, entitled "Descendants of James and George Wellman In Canada and the United States 1849-1970". Pg. 2- Family records say that James was born Jan 11, 1830. The 1851 Census records for Vaughn Tp., York County, lists James Wellman as a labourer, from England, of the Episcopalian Faith, whose age next birthday would be 24. He was in the employ of John Williams, a miller. James married Margaret A Armstrong who came with her family from Cavan, Ireland. They farmed in Hasting County on Lot 21, Con. 10, Wollaston Tp. where they were later buried, although the memorial stone was moved to the Belleville Cemetery in 1968. Lot 21, Con. 10 was Crown Land, being granted to William Blackburn on Oct. 15, 1885. James & Margaret had three daughters named Sarah, Martha and Jane, as well as three sons, John, James, and George. Margaret died in the spring of 1869. James remarried on July 24 1871 at Tudor Tp., Hastings County, to Jane Smith who was born in Renfrew County & was the daughter of Robert R. and Elizabeth Smith. James & Jane had one son, Thomas Robinson Wellman. James died young from pneumonia while helping a neighbour fight a fire. His widow, Jane, later married William Blackburn and moved to Wawa, Ontario. They had four sons- Edward, Joshua, Richard & William; and two daughters- Emma & Josephine. Most of the Blackburn family live in British Columbia. William & Josephine were living in Salmon Arm, B.C. in 1970. Ontario Death Register# 01677
