Note: Louisa Ann Kemp was born in Percy Tp., Ontario, on Jan. 26, 1841. As a girl in her middle teens, she accompanied her young husband, Ephraim Gunter, to the New Settlement to establish a frontier home in a two-room log cabin. Her young married life with her husband much of the time proved lonesome, & she spent much of her time crying. But later, when her brood was young, gathering us around the fireplace, she used to sit in the little rocking chair & tell us stories while she knitted or sewed--stories of Indians & wild beasts, & of the excitement & privations of pioneer life. She was a sweet singer & often entertained us." (Source: Mrs. Thomas Shearer of Palmyra, N.Y., as provided to me by Lorrie Minshall, Caledonia). Birth per record in the family bible of Sarah Emily (Hinchliffe) Kemp, her sister, stated that she was born on Jan. 20, 1840.
