Notes
a. Note:   00225.htm#i225 Adam married Elenor (Ellen) Chisholm in St. Thomas Church, Belleville, Ontario, 11 Jan 1844. Elenor was born Abt 1822. In the Vital Statistics record of their son James' marriage in 1875, Elenor's name is recorded as "Ellen Chisholm." Their religion is given as Methodist. In the Haggerty book FHH gave her name as "Helen." The 1871 census has a record of an Elenor Haggerty, widow, aged 40, in Huntingdon Twp. She is recorded as being born in Ontario and of Scottish origin. This record had me puzzled for some time, but I now believe the age must be in error as Adam and Elenor's first child was born in 1844. I have since found that she is also listed as a widow in the 1861 Rawdon Twp Census. In 1840 Adam Haggerty took over 100 acres of land (Rawdon Twp., Concession 2, Lot 1, West 1/2) purchased by his father a few days earlier. February 27, 1866 "Elenor Hagerty, widow and James Haggerty and other Infants Dependant" were granted the land by a "Vesting Order," according to the Lands Records, transcribed by Mattie McCurdy. Ellen married Nesbitt Reid 17 Jun 1873. Adam was christened in Ballygurteen, Kilmeen Parish, County Cork, Ireland, 30 Apr 1815. Birth date is from record my Grandmother had; baptism date is from Kilmeen parish register. They were probably both actually in the same year, probably 1815?? The Haggerty book did not have a death date for Adam. However, the land record for their farm indicated: Adam Haggertie and wife took out a 100 pound mortgage with Thomas Kelso 12 October 1858. Then on 27 February 1866, "Vesting Order" was filed by Thomas Kelso "vested in Eleanor Hagerty, widow, and James Haggerty and and other Infants Dependent." The order was registered 9 November 1868. I assume that Adam had died shortly before 27 February 1866. Adam Haggerty and Elenor (Ellen) Chisholm had the following children: 216 i. James Haggerty was born 1844. 217 ii. Marmaduke Haggerty was born 9 Nov 1846. Adam Haggerty was born in Rawdon Twp., Hastings County Abt 1855. + 218 iii. John Haggerty was born 14 Jun 1848. + 219 iv. Ann Haggerty was born in Rawdon Twp., Ontario 19 Jul 1850. She was christened in St. Thomas Church, Belleville, 2 Oct 1850. (SOURCE: St. Thomas Anglican Church, Belleville) Sponsors were James Haggerty and Ellen Haggerty (Ann's mother). Unmarried. + 220 v. Thomas Morley Haggerty was born in Rawdon Twp., Ontario 4 Jul 1852. He was christened in St. Thomas Church, Belleville, 9 Oct 1852. (SOURCE: St. Thomas Anglican Church, Belleville) Baptism sponsors were Nicholas Stout, John Stout and Miss Haggerty (possibly Martha Haggerty, daughter of George Haggertie; Martha married John Stout). Unmarried. 221 vi. Adam Haggerty was born abt 1855 in Hastings County, Ontario. 222 vii. Hannah Haggerty was born in Hastings Co., Ontario 6 Jun 1857. She married Harvey Weiss. She was christened in St. Thomas Church, Belleville, 5 Aug 1857. (SOURCE: St. Thomas Anglican Church, Belleville) Baptism sponsors were parents. No children. 223 viii. Alexander Haggerty was born 8 Jun 1858. + 224 ix. Robert Haggerty was born in Rawdon Twp., Hastings County, Ontario 18 Mar 1860. Robert died 1868 in Huntingdon Twp., Hastings Co., Ontario. His body was interred 6 Mar 1868. He was christened in St. Thomas Church, Belleville, 23 Jun 1860. (SOURCE: St. Thomas Anglican Church, Belleville) Baptism sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. James Haggerty and Marmaduke Haggerty. Said to have died at age of 9 (doesn't fit birth date?)--not listed in Florence Haggerty's book. Parish burial record indicates he was the "son of Widow Hagarty," revealing that Adam had predeceased his son. 225 x. Hyram7 Haggerty was born Abt 1868. This child is a bit of a mystery. Elenor's husband, Adam Haggerty, died in about 1860 (she was a widow for the 1861 census). In 1871 he was living with Elenor and six of her and Adam's older children. In 1881, aged 13 and after Elenor had married Nesbitt Reid, Hyram was living with two older sisters, Ann (26) and Hannah (22). He may have been a son of one of them?
