Quebec Obit: James Dobson - The death of James Dobson, occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 8th, at the home of his brother Archie Dobson, New Carlisle, Que. The deceased was born May 22nd, 1871, & was the son of the late Thomas Dobson and his wife Annie Renouf. His wife, Katherine Benwell, predeceased him 27 years ago, also a son James, who was accidently killed two years ago. The funeral service, under the supervision of Mr. Joshua Chatterton, took place on Thursday, Nov. 10th, at St. Andrews Anglican Church. The rector, Rev. A. S. LeMoignan, conducted the service, & interment was in the Anglican Cemetery. The choir was in attendance and hymns sung were: Safe In the Arms of Jesus, The Lord's My Shepherd, & Abide With Me. The remains were driven by Eric Thompson. The Pall-bearers were Wesley Dobson, Hudson Delaney, Clifford Flowers, James Thompson, Bertram Roussey & John Chatterton. The floral tributes were beautiful. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Emma Murray, Cape Breton, N.S., Mrs. Ella Thurston, Lynn, Mass, & Mrs. Arthur Buttle (Anna Belle), Montreal, One brother, Archie, New Carlisle, & a daughter-in-law, the former Laura Lelsace, Quebec. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved. Mom said he worked on the boats with his brother, Archie, & they went to Barbados to get molasses. He had huge hands & was severely bow-legged. Death date per St. Andrew's Anglican church records, says aged 78 yrs. Mom said he had twisted crooked legs, supposedly from carrying barrels of molasses when he was on the boat to and from Barbados from Carlisle. His wife's name was Kate and Mom thought Kate died around the same time as Ann Renouf (i.e. ca 1822).
