Note: Zoe was born on February 2, 1875 to Mary Emeline Brown and her second husband, James Gwin, m. September 18, 1872 in Randolph, Illinois Mary’s first husband, Abner Vanburen BURKE (m. In Perry, Illinois, on September 5, 1861). Her brothers are: 1) Allen b. 1859. 2) Ira, b. 1862, 3) Albin in 1865 and 4) Abner, b. 1868.
Zoe was 20 mo old when her father, James Gwin died. Her mother, Mary Emmaline Brown, was 5 months pregnant at the time. Zoe lived in Wine Hill, Illinois, in 1880.
Her mother, Mary, married John T McBride (who was the Randolph County clerk) when Zoe was 2, they lived Chester, Randolph Co, ILLINOIS. Zoe married Hebert Elwell Hunter at age 18 on 4.26. 1893 at the First Methodist Episcopal Church South in St. Louis, MO Heber Elwell Hunter was born on September 12, 1868, in Louisville, Illinois, to Charlotte Read (Lottie) Miller, age 21, and John Elwell Hunter, age 25. Zoe & Heber gave birth to her first child, Laurence Elrod Hunter Dec. 13, 1894 in Flora City, Clay Co, Illinois. Their second child, Ramon Gwynne Hunter was born Sept. 15, 1897 in Los Angeles, California. According to the federal census of 1900, Zoe & Heber we’re living in Los Angeles Ward 7, Los Angeles, California with their sons. Mar. 11, 1901, LA Herald paper announcement of Zola Francis McBride Hunter filing for divorce from Heber Elwell Hunter on grounds of abandonment and abuse. Heber Elwell Hunter and Zoe Frances Gwin were divorced on February 1, 1902, in Los Angeles, California, after 8 years of marriage. Heber was awarded custody of the boys. 1902, Zoe is listed as living in Los Angeles California, age 27 Zoe married Frederick Clarence White in Los Angeles, California, on February 26, 1903, when she was 28 years old. Their daughter, Florence was born on Sept. 9th, 1903, she died the same day. After a 2 week battle with sepsis, Zoe died on April 9, 1904, in Los Angeles, California, when she was 29 years old.
